Motherhood is both magical and messy.
If you’ve ever asked yourself something like,
you’re not alone, and you’re in the right place.
What happened to the woman I used to be?
Am I doing motherhood the “right way?”
Why does it feel like I’m carrying more?
Am I selfish for wanting more from my life?
How do other moms do it all?
Why do I feel resentful when this is what I wanted?

It is true that the satisfying, somewhat predictable march of “progress” in one’s life without children is replaced, when children arrive, by the messier, more ambiguous process of “becoming.” - Daphne De Marneffe, Maternal Desire
Modern mothers are experiencing overwhelm, guilt, shame, exhaustion, hyper-vigilance, stress and other emotions that affect our ability to experience the joy, connection and fulfillment we had hoped for. With the influence social media, expert advice and cultural expectations, we often blame ourselves.
But what if some of this was part of the natural transition mothers go through when they have children? What if these are not personal failures but simply signs that something needs to shift, expand or release?
Matrescence, coined by medical anthropologist Dana Raphael, is the transformation of becoming a mother: body, mind, heart, relationships and identity. Like adolescence, it's a true rite of passage, and it's messy. You don't need to go back to who you were. You get to discover who you get to be in this next stage of your journey.
I am here to guide you in identifying what that is and clarifying your path forward.
